The Fort Lauderdale Mercantile Company was one of the few places to shop in the city in 1921. The advertisement above from the Fort Lauderdale Herald (March 4, 1921) thanks tourists for their patronage. There's no address in this ad and many others of the time because all commerce was on one or two streets downtown, not far from the New River; everyone knew where the businesses were.
