Looking to play at a South Florida casino? AVOID this one.

Out of the fracas and back at the inlet

I've been to casinos around the U.S. but none quite like the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino.

Self parking lies across a busy street from the building. Though bus service is provided on a frequent basis, it's a long trek to catch one. The walk across the street isn't far but one must first navigate the grassy ditches that separate rows of parking spaces. I saw one elderly woman, in haste to meet up with a slot machine or two, slip right into a ditch and land on her rear. No doubt, Lady Luck was sending her a message.

The casino brought other problems. Sure, I expected crowds, cigarette smoke, and lines for food, lines for the cashier, etc. I didn't expect the heat and the countless out-of-order slot machines. Nor was staff easy to find for help. Turning on a light for assistance was fruitless.

And then the begging. Someone asked me for money to "get her car out." She valeted the car but probably plugged the buck I gave her  into another slot machine. That and plenty of pushing and shoving for seats at working slots ended the visit on the most sour of notes.

Next time we'll probably visit Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino or the Pompano Park Isle of Capri Casino  - both cooler, well run, well staffed and with fewer broken machines.
